“Heritage Through Image”
In late 2023, the East Polk Heritage Center commissioned photographer Monika Lawrence of Bemidji (now living in Germany), to meet and photograph eleven individuals representing a wide range of talents, craft, interests and art. EPHC desires to preserve and portray the cultural heritage of our area, not only through artifacts, buildings, and documents but through visual mediums such as photography and art.
The “Heritage Through Image” exhibit reflects traditional practices, customs, and folklore to serve as a visual representation of our heritage. Through this, we hope to share stories, traditions, and historical significance, thereby preserving and communicating the aspects of cultural heritage to future generations.
Featured in this unique display are Stephenie Anderson, John Balstad, Dustin Carlson, Caleb Curfman, Amy Mulry, Al and Vicky Olson, Jeffrey Olson, Earl Steinbrenner, Lynn Sundrud, Rosalyn Watnemo, and Carol Wold.
This exhibition is on display through June, with a reception TBA in May.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
